Robotics Mindstorms EV3 - City Machines - Forklift Truck

LEARN: The Forklift Truck vehicle is used in many warehouses to lift heavy loads. Students will learn about short-range transport, the range of specialty forklift trucks and stackers used for it.

BUILD: Students will build a construction model of a Forklift Truck. This LEGO model needs three motors, a touch sensor and a distance sensor. Two motors are used to drive the construction whereas the third one enables the fork lift truck to lift materials. The distance sensor gives information to the robot about where to stop to load its cargo.

Completing BUILD: Students will build a construction model of a Forklift Truck. This Lego model needs three motors, a touch sensor and a distance sensor. Two motors are used to drive the construction whereas the third one enables the fork lift truck to lift materials. The distance sensor gives information to the robot about where to stop to load its cargo.

Robotics Mindstorms EV3 - City Machines - Forklift Truck

EXPLORE: This LEGO forklift model is a clever vehicle used for carrying cargo placed on the pallet. To raise the forks, most forklifts rely on chains. This model, however, uses a string. This model uses two motors, which independently powers one of the sides of the mechanism. The smaller motor propels the mechanism that raises the forks. The distance sensor is used to detect the pallet and stop the forklift directly in front of it. The wheels can rotate independently, which allows the forklift to turn. It is known as a skid-steering drive.
CODE: The forklift should execute the following sequence of movements: 1) Approaching the pallet; 2) raising it to a proper height; 3) moving back; 4)putting the pallet aside. The forklift should execute these tasks automatically, once the program is activated.

LEARN: This remotely controled car allows students to feel like race drivers. Just like in most sport cars the power from the engine is transmitted to the rear axle, which is done by means of a gear train. Students will learn about various details of a car (especially a race car) construction.

BUILD: Students will build a construction model that resembles a Mighty American Dragster. This LEGO 

model has rack and pinion steering mechanism that is being operated with a motor and a tilt sensor.

Robotics Mindstorms EV3 - City Machines - Racer

EXPLORE: The racer is a remotely controlled car. It resembles a top fuel dragster – a powerful vehicle used in quarter-mile races. The first motor is responsible for propelling the car. It is located in the middle of the chassis and the driven axle is in the rear. The second motor propels the steering mechanism. The motor drive is transferred via an axle to the cogwheel with 24 teeth. The turning system is made from several beams and cross blocks. The controller is made out of a touch sensor and a tilt sensor.
