WELCOME BACK!
Another year of exciting events/activites awaits! Robotics rolls into the grade 4 classrooms to start the school year, followed by a new science program, "My Pals Are Here!" The grades 5/6 will continue with the "Science-Tech" program.
Scholastic Magazines are available for purchase throught the school. If interested, CLICK HERE to download the form and view the editorial calendar.
MATH & CHESS EVENTS
Every year, the grade 3 to 6 students are given the opportunity to participate in various mathematical competitions. These competitions include the Math League Contest, the QAMT Contest, the Mathematica Contests and the Caribou Contest. Dates and times for the mathematical competitions vary from year to year. The Math League Contest is administered to all grade 4 to 6 students.
Students who have played chess before and know the laws of the game are welcome to compete in a chess tournament. Depending on the number of students participating, competitions could be done by grade level or by cycle.
ROBOTIC EVENTS
In grades 3 to 6, the students are introduced to the world of Robotics by utilizing the Lego Mindstorms kit and/or the Lego WeDo kit. For one to two months, the students get to build a basic bot and learn the visual programming to perform a number of tasks.
For grade 6 students who wish to continue and have an aptitude for robotics, the competitions/events might be of interest. During the school year, teams are formed and preparation begins (lunch and after school) for the robotic competitions in March and April. Depending on the circumstances, select grade 4 and 5 students might be able to also participate. Selected grade 3 students also have an opportunity to participate in a robotics project.
ROBOTICS SUMMER CAMP
If your looking for a day camp for your child, you might want to consider the ROBOTICS CAMP, especially, if your child loves Lego! This ultimate summer construction lego camp is a fun and creative learning experience. The Robotics Camp has a one-to-one ratio of kit/computer to child. This means that every child gets to use a Lego Mindstorms kit and computer to themselves.
