CARIBOU MATH CONTEST #6
The Fourth Caribou Math Contest is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 or Thursday, May 7. The interactive question will be the NIM Game. There will be no history question.
Students can practice these games on the Games Page of the cariboutests.com site. All previous years' contests are also available for practice. You will need your passcode to access the practice contests.
Science and Math Resources
If interested, I have put together a list of "Gizmos" from the Explore Learning website that might help your child's learning at this time. For each Gizmo, a student exploration sheet is available to download. Each of the Gizmos below, are related to the chapters of the science textbook. You can also browse many of the science and math gizmos available. If any are of interest to your child, please e-mail me and I will give you access. Let me know if your child does not have his/her password to access the gizmos.

Also, Math Games are available at the Caribou Math website. Any student can have access and any student can also participate in the upcoming Caribou Math competitions. The next Caribou Math Competition is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 or Thursday, April 9. Students can write the contest at home under normal conditions (no calculator, no outside help, etc.). Previous years' contests are available for practice. Royal Vale has the Inclusive School Wide Pass. If your child does not have a password, please e-mail me and I can easily set one up.
REFLEX Math is also available for those students who want to review and practice their multiplication tables. Contact me for password.
For those students interested in coding, SCRATCH is a program that all grade 5 students will be using next school year. It would be a good time to get an early start. Students can try many of the tutorials.

MATH & CHESS EVENTS
Every year, the grade 3 to 6 students are given the opportunity to participate in various mathematical competitions. These competitions include the Math League Contest, the QAMT Contest, the Mathematica Contests and the Caribou Contest. Dates and times for the mathematical competitions vary from year to year. The Math League Contest is administered to all grade 4 to 6 students.
Students who have played chess before and know the laws of the game are welcome to compete in a chess tournament. Depending on the number of students participating, competitions could be done by grade level or by cycle.
ROBOTIC EVENTS
In grades 5 to 6, the students are introduced to the world of Robotics by utilizing the Lego Mindstorms kit. For one to two months, the students get to build a basic bot and learn the visual programming to perform a number of tasks.
For grades 5 to 6 students who wish to continue and have an aptitude for robotics, the competitions/events might be of interest. During the school year, teams are formed and preparation begins (lunch and after school) for the robotic competitions from January to May. Depending on the circumstances, select grade 4 students might be able to also participate. Selected grade 3 students also have an opportunity to participate in a robotics project.
ROBOTICS SUMMER CAMP
If your looking for a day camp for your child, you might want to consider the ROBOTICS CAMP, especially, if your child loves Lego! This ultimate summer construction lego camp is a fun and creative learning experience. The Robotics Camp has a one-to-one ratio of kit/computer to child. This means that every child gets to use a Lego Mindstorms kit and computer or tablet to themselves.
